Brian Lee Johnsrud


Brian Lee Johnsrud is a litigator with substantial experience and expertise in representing technology, financial services, and transportation companies.  He works closely with clients to develop credible litigation avoidance strategies in high-risk employment disputes, and has arbitrated and tried a number of cases to defense verdict.  He is a frequent speaker on employment law trends and emerging issues, and has been recognized as a Northern California Super Lawyer for Labor and Employment (Defense).

Mr. Johnsrud has experience in equal employment opportunity litigation, agency actions, corporate compliance, contract and tort-based employment litigation, whistleblower actions, workplace safety, wage and hour, unfair competition and trade secrets, training, and class action avoidance and defense.

Before opening Curley, Hurtgen & Johnsrud LLP’s Silicon Valley office, Mr. Johnsrud was a partner in the Palo Alto office of Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP, where in addition to his employment law practice he served as a co-director of the firm’s Trial Academy, co-chair of the firm’s technology industry employment law practice, and as a member of the hiring committee.

Mr. Johnsrud received his law degree, cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1996, where he was class commencement speaker, and is a former member of the School’s Board of Directors. He received his undergraduate degree, summa cum laude, in Political Science in 1993, from Saint Cloud State University, where he received the University’s Award for Excellence in Leadership.

Mr. Johnsrud resides in Menlo Park with his wife and son and their dog from the Humane Society, which in 2008 awarded him its President’s Award for his years of pro bono service.  He enjoys swimming and road cycling, and has completed several sprint and olympic distance triathlons.
