Emilie Smith Petirs


Emilie Smith Petirs has substantial employment litigation experience, including the defense of statutory discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims, as well as contract and common law tort claims. She also has litigated several restrictive covenant, trade secret, and unfair competition cases, including successfully obtaining and opposing temporary restraining orders and preliminary injunctions. Ms. Smith Petirs has led e-discovery teams in the efficient management of those projects.

Ms. Smith Petirs also advises clients on the full range of employment law issues impacting their business. She has particular expertise in drafting Human Resources policies and auditing those policies and practices, including wage and hour, leaves of absence, and trade secret issues. Before joining Curley, Hurtgen & Johnsrud LLP, Ms. Smith Petirs worked as an employment law attorney in the Palo Alto office of Paul Hastings LLP. There, she gained exposure to, and developed substantial skills handling, a wide range of employment law and employee mobility issues.

Ms. Smith Petirs graduated from UCLA School of Law in 2005, with an emphasis in Business Law and Policy. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, in both History and Spanish from the University of Oregon in 2001, where she received the Centurion Award for Achievement, Leadership, and Service. She resides in Redwood City, California, and, in her spare time, enjoys camping, hiking, and travelling abroad.
